The Campus Kitchen’s Food Trailer, fully funded by a grant, provides a unique mobile kitchen dedicated to serving free hot meals to those facing food insecurity. This initiative allows Campus Kitchen staff and volunteers to expand their reach and impact within the community. The food trailer’s mobility enables it to participate in various events and partnerships, strengthening its mission of combating hunger.

Campus Kitchen actively seeks opportunities to bring the food trailer to community events. Organizations interested in hosting the food trailer can contact [email protected] to discuss potential collaborations. This outreach program aims to make nutritious meals accessible to a wider audience and foster stronger community connections.

The food trailer’s presence at local events provides a platform to educate the public about food insecurity and Campus Kitchen’s efforts to address this issue. By engaging with community members directly, the organization raises awareness and encourages participation in its various programs.

The food trailer’s menu often features fresh, locally sourced ingredients, highlighting the organization’s commitment to sustainability and supporting local farmers. Whenever possible, the meals incorporate surplus food donated by grocery partners, minimizing food waste and maximizing resources. This resourcefulness ensures that nutritious ingredients are utilized efficiently to create delicious and healthy meals.

One successful event featuring the food trailer was the Marigold Market in Winterville, Georgia. Campus Kitchen participated in this community market, offering a fresh corn salad made with locally sourced ingredients. The salad, featuring corn, tomatoes, onions, cucumbers, feta cheese, and a light dressing, was a popular choice among attendees.

The Marigold Market provided an opportunity to interact with community members, share information about Campus Kitchen’s mission, and offer samples of delicious, healthy food. Despite cold weather, the event saw a strong turnout, demonstrating the community’s enthusiasm for local food and supporting organizations like Campus Kitchen.

The food trailer also made a positive impact at the Athens Community Council on Aging (ACCA), serving lunch to the LEAD Athens program. The menu included egg salad and chicken salad sandwiches made with donated ingredients, accompanied by potato chips, fresh salad from the UGArden, and homemade tea.

This event showcased the food trailer’s ability to transform donated food into wholesome meals, minimizing waste and maximizing its impact on the community. Participants enjoyed a delicious and nutritious lunch while learning about Campus Kitchen’s mission and the importance of food recovery. The event was a successful collaboration with ACCA and LEAD Athens, further solidifying the food trailer’s role in community outreach.
